Full description: Patients often tell us of their worries for their family's health. There is evidence that caring for someone who is seriously ill and then being bereaved can affect physical and emotional health. Family members of patients with serious illnesses may be at higher risk of illness themselves, due to shared genes and shared environmental and lifestyle risk factors. We would like contact with the hospice to have a positive health gain in the long term. We want the views of cancer patients and their families on how to design our study which will explore patients and their families priorities and concerns. The outcome we hope to achieve is to find the best way of promoting better physical and emotional health in people we come into contact with. We require two specific types of help; 1) Reading through a brief summary of our proposal and participating in a one off interview. The interview can be either alone or with your family, and can be done face to face, over the telephone or via the internet. We will ask a small number of questions to find out your views on our research prososal. 2) Ongoing help as an active part of our research team.

Organisation: Marie Curie Hospice Solihull
The Solihull hospice looks after people with a life limiting illness. Although this is often cancer it may be heart disease, lung disease, motor neurone disease or many other conditions. We also care for the relatives and carers of our patients during the course of the illness and in bereavement. We care for people both at home, in our day centre and in our 17 bedded hospice in-patient unit. Many patients are cared for by the hospice and community palliative care services throughout their illness.
