PROF-COG - a pilot study of falls prevention interventions for people living in residential care
Link:
Full description: Later in the year, we will start a pilot study investigating an intervention to prevent falls for older people with dementia living in residential care. If you have had a close friend or relative who has suffered from dementia and/or lived in residential care, or you work as a carer in residential care you may be able to help us with our research by becoming a member of our planning and evaluation team or by joining our reading group. Being a member of the planning and evaluation team will involve attending 6 meetings each lasting around 1 ½ hours, over a period of 18 months. The planning and evaluation team will be made up of interested members of the public, (ideally with some experience of residential care/dementia), care home residents and care staff. The planning, progress and finally the evaluation of this project will be discussed at meetings and all team members will be invited to contribute opinions based on their own experiences. It will also be necessary to read and comment on material to be used in the study such as information sheets, consent forms and education materials for staff. Being a member of the reading group will involve reading and commenting on material to be used in the study such as information sheets, consent forms and education materials for staff. This will involve around 2 hours of work from home and attending one meeting lasting around 1 ½ hours. No research experience is necessary and training can be provided. All meetings will be held in South East London. We will be having an informal event where we will provide more information on the project. This is open to anyone interested and will be on Thursday 19th April between 17.00-18.00 in the boardroom at Kings College Hospital. Please contact Julie Whitney for more details.
