How was this site developed?

The original idea for developing People in Research came from two frequently asked questions. Members of the public asking 'How can I get involved?' and research organisations or projects asking 'How do we find people to get involved?'.

The development of People in Research was led by INVOLVE on behalf of the UK Clinical Research Collaboration.

Members of the public were involved in most stages of the site's development - project steering group, site design, content and information architecture.  The site was piloted in January and February 2007 by a panel of members of the public who had not otherwise been involved in its development.

In October 2008 the UK Clinical Research Collaboration (UKCRC) commissioned Minervation to carry out an independent evaluation of the site.  A copy of their report can be downloaded from the UKCRC website. 

From September 2009 to February 2010 Minervation worked closely with INVOLVE and the UKCRC to improve the site, based on the recommendations in the evaluation report.  Again, members of the public were involved in most stages of this process - project advisory group, user group, site design, content and information architecture.

The site now includes many more examples of what public involvement is, from the perspective of people who are doing it, and including video clips.  The site now also has a system for posting and searching live opportunities for involvement.
