Why do we need research?

Health and social care research can help to:

  • ensure services and treatments are relevant to the public
  • find out what people think about services
  • improve treatments and services
  • test treatments to make sure they are safe and effective
  • improve the environment, health and wellbeing of a local population

Many of us use a variety of research skills in our daily lives to find out information.  We might search the internet to find reviews on something we are thinking about buying or ask a sales assistant about different products to see which is best.
