Useful questions to ask
Before getting involved you may want to find out more detail
about exactly how the organisations involve the public in their
research activities. The answers that you get from the
organisations should help you make a decision about whether you
want to get involved and what you are interested in doing. The
following are examples of questions you might want to ask:
- What am I being asked to do?
- Is there a written job description?
- Are they looking for particular skills or experience?
- What is the time commitment?
- How often are the meetings?
- Where will they be held?
- How much reading or preparation will I be expected to do ahead
of the meeting?
- What training is available?
- Will there be a named person providing advice, support or
mentoring?
- Will there be practical support such as access to office
equipment, use of computer, photocopying, printing and
telephone?
- Will I be offered payment for my involvement?
- Will my expenses such as carer costs and travel be
covered?
- How would payment affect my benefits or income tax?
