Ways to get involved

There are a variety of different ways you can get involved in research, for example by:

joining a commissioning board that considers which research should be funded
being a peer reviewer - commenting on research proposals or research protocols
becoming a member of a research advisory group or steering group
writing or commenting on research documents, such as patient information leaflets, questionnaires or a systematic review
helping to carry out the research
making sure the research findings are communicated to a wide range of people

Some research activities can be done from home, for example, reading and commenting on research papers or proposals. Other activities involve travel to regular meetings to discuss or work on the research.

It isn’t always easy to find exactly what you are looking for. Public involvement in clinical research is still a developing area and some organisations are doing more than others. The organisations in our directory might not have any opportunities immediately available, but don’t be put off!
