Full description:
This project’s aim is to further understand harm associated with the use of surveillance technology in inpatient mental health wards (for ex Oxevision, Care Protect, bodyworn camera, CCTV in seclusion/136 suites). It was designed with co-researchers with lived experience and seeks interview participants with experience of surveillance technology, preferably in the past 5 years, but who left the ward at least 3 months ago. Interview will run online, using time mapping as a method.

Hello, my name is Blue (they/them). I’m a PhD student, NSUN member and mental health service user and survivor. I research surveillance technology used in inpatient mental health care. Examples of surveillance technologies include Oxevision, Care Protect, body-worn cameras and CCTV in seclusion and 136 suites. My project has received ethics approval from the University of Sheffield and has been designed collaboratively with paid co-researchers with lived experience.

What support is offered?
This project has involved 4 co-researchers with lived experience with whom we looked at how social research project design works, designed the project together, including the interview guide. Co-researchers will also lead on interviews.
