Improving end of life care in care homes

Seeking to improve palliative and end of life care in care (nursing) homes

Link to organisation:

Full description:

I’m designing a study which will aim to improve staff confidence in looking after people in care homes, improve people’s quality of dying and keep people out of hospitals. I’m looking for PPI involvement now (at design stage) to follow through to the actual study (if it is funded).

The PPI people would have personal experience of UK care homes, for example maybe as a relative of someone who is a resident in a care home, or is themselves living in a care home.

The volunteers would hopefully be:

  1. Commenting on and contributing to the draft protocol
  2. Suggesting ways in which they would like to be involved in the study if funded
  3. Involved in team meetings – offering their personal experiences of care homes to aid in discussions as to the scope and focus of the study
  4. Contribute to discussions about the design of the proposed project, for example choice of care homes, how to best liaise with care home residents/relatives
  5. Assist in developing the ethics paperwork, by providing reviews so the documents to be read by residents/relatives are accessible and useful
  6. If funded: participate in data collection and analysis (with training), and interpretation of results, dissemination (for example through commenting on summaries and potential co-presenting findings at meetings)
