Full description:
Robotic-assisted surgery has potential to overcome many of the challenges facing the NHS today but more research is needed. Surgical robots automatically record detailed information about each surgery including how efficiently surgeon’s control their instruments. Using artificial intelligence we can identify surgeon behaviours associated with both good and bad patient outcomes. We wish to develop ‘real world’ measures that can be fed back to surgeons so that they can improve their performance.

We are a group of surgeons and computer scientists working in collaboration with a large robotic surgery company to improve equity of access for patients to high quality surgical services. We are based in the West Midlands and will organise the first workshop in that area. If there is sufficient interest we will organise additional workshops in other parts of the UK.
