Digital tool to improve staff education and patient outcome following major emergency abdominal surgery

We invite patients, ideally with experience of urgent major abdominal surgery (also called emergency laparotomy or major emergency general surgery), to a 1-hour online MS Teams event on the 18th May. We seek your views on the use of individual patient data within secure digital tools to support clinicians with learning and improvement across this important emergency surgical pathway. Exploring and addressing the unmet needs of people who live alone with cancer

We would like to understand the experiences, care issues and unmet needs of people who live alone with cancer. These could be at any point in the cancer journey, during diagnosis, treatment, medication, or living with and beyond cancer. We would like to discuss what changes and support people think they need to help address some of these problems they have faced. We welcome people from all different backgrounds and cultures. The flyer provides more information.

Autoimmune disease and mental health: share your experience

We are inviting people living with an autoimmune condition to join a workshop to explore the links between their diagnosis journey and mental health. Your views will help shape future research.
We welcome people of any age, living with autoimmune conditions affecting the joints, digestive system, or hormones, including those awaiting diagnosis.
We are particularly keen to hear from women, people from Black or South Asian backgrounds, and people also living with depression or anxiety.

Community Appointment Days (CADs) for People with a Musculoskeletal (MSK) Condition

CADs offer an appointment to help people with their musculoskeletal condition, and other health and social care needs.

We are looking to recruit a Patient Advisory Group (PAG) of eight members. The PAG will meet remotely every two weeks during protocol development, every two months during data collection, and then monthly to inform interpretation and preparation of materials for dissemination.

If interested, please write an expression of interest and we will meet to discuss the opportunity.

CONNECT: Studying joined up hospital care for people with learning disabilities.

People with severe learning disabilities often face poorer health and complex surgical care involving multiple teams and repeated anaesthesia, increasing risks and stress. We want to study surgical care experiences. We would like to speak to people with learning disabilities/autism and their families for advice on designing this study to make sure it meets their needs and helps them to be involved.

Public engagement opportunity for research project looking at reduction of ultra processed food consumption (GOLDFINCH)

GOLDFINCH is a study on ultra processed foods (UPFs) that is being led by researchers at Imperial College. We are currently recruiting members of the public to the project’s Public Reference Group (PRG). The PRG will help researchers to understand the issues that matter to communities most affected by unhealthy diets. We are looking for members of the public over the age of 18 with an interest in healthy eating and/or food environments who understand the difficulties of choosing healthier foods.

Help shape research on periodontitis, biomarkers and personalised care

We are looking for patients and public contributors to help shape a research fellowship on periodontitis (gum disease). The study aims to improve diagnosis and prediction of future disease burden using clinical, biomarker and patient-reported information. Contributors will help review study documents, improve patient-facing materials, comment on acceptability and relevance, and advise on dissemination.

Help shape research to improve children’s anaesthetic experiences

We are inviting children, young people, and parents or carers to take part in an online discussion to help design a research study. The study will explore whether changes to hospital anaesthetic rooms (e.g. lighting, sounds, decorations) can reduce anxiety in children having surgery. You will be asked what may help children feel calmer and what researchers should measure. The 60 minute session will take place on Microsoft Teams. A device with internet, camera and microphone is required.
