Help us improve how we support access needs for public involvement at the Health Research Authority

We are designing a form and some template emails for sharing information about people’s access needs appropriately and with their consent, and we would like to involve people with access and support needs to help us do this at a workshop on Wednesday 8 October on Zoom.

We are looking for people who have experience of asking for access and support needs when getting involved in research, but who have not been involved with the HRA in the last 2 years.

Developing a shared understanding of the commercial determinants of health, between residents of Sheffield, researchers, and Sheffield City Council

We are recruiting people who live in Sheffield to take part in research on the commercial determinants of health. These are business activities, such as the making and selling of goods and services, that can positively or negatively affect people’s health. We undertaking workshops with residents to find ways of talking about the commercial determinants of health which are easy for the public to understand. You don’t need to have any prior knowledge of this topic to take part.

Can ashwagandha (a herbal supplement) improve muscle health in later life?

We are applying for a small grant to carry out a pilot study assessing whether ashwagandha (a herbal supplement) may positively impact muscle health and quality of life in older people, and whether a larger trial of this would be feasible. We are looking for 1-2 older people (aged >65 years) who have noticed some muscle weakness recently (e.g. difficulty getting up from a chair or opening heavy doors) to give us feedback on the project idea, outcomes and how to maximise engagement.

Have you injected heparin after birth to prevent blood clots?

We want to learn from women who have had experience of injecting low molecular weight heparin after the birth of their baby to prevent blood clots, with planning a clinical trial, which plans to test heparin injections to an oral blood thinning medication after delivery.
A focus group on TEAMS is planned, where we will discuss with you:
• your experiences of injecting heparin,
• the proposed trial planned,
• what improvements can be made,
• and what concerns you would have in taking part.

Looking for a public contributor to join research as part of PhD work

Your insights will help shape the research design.

The research is about improving fall prevention room services in the UK.

Your role will involve giving opinion on leaflets design, on interview questions, accessibility and taking part in piloting interviews – all of it of part of it (depending on your preference).

No experience in research is needed. I am interested in your opinion on my design to ensure that my research is accessible to public.

People who have experienced mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) or concussion needed to help identify and design research about self-management.

I am an Occupational Therapist in Leeds currently completing an NIHR pre-doctoral fellowship. My work is looking the use of personal technology (mobile phones/tablets etc) to help people with mild traumatic brain injuries/concussion.

I am looking for people who have had or cared for someone with a mild traumatic brain injury/concussion to provide their views and experiences.

The information and perspectives gathered will shape future research including a PhD research project.

Have you or someone you cared for ever broken a bone and gone through future care planning as a result?

We want to learn from people who have had experience with planning medical care, making treatment decisions, or coordinating support after a fracture. Your perspective will help shape future healthcare services and research areas.
We are looking for individuals with lived experience in:
• Making or supporting medical decisions after breaking a bone
• Coordinating ongoing care or support at home or in the community
• Involvement in planning care services following injury

Join a Health Research Authority (HRA) advisory group on informed consent in certain clinical trials

Clinical trials aim to find out more about an illness, condition, treatment, therapy or care. The type of clinical trials we are discussing in this work involve medicines routinely used in the NHS which have therefore undergone all necessary safety evaluations required for use in the UK.
We are developing principles on simplified arrangements for consent to support these important clinical trials on existing medicines, while maintaining public trust.
